Current Info:
Wed
Oct 26 2005 - The WDC Board releases plans for the Phase I
component of the planned Riverpark Place Development.
This
announcement is simply a restatement of previously released material and offer no new information as it pertains to The Harbor.
Unfortunately, the "plans" submitted to The U.S. Army corps of Engineers clearly
call for The Harbor to be totally demolished and excavated as part of Phase I construction. Initial construction will also seriously impact other previously identified historic
and archaeological sites as well as protected prehistoric Native American gravesites.
Despite repeated overtures by
concerted citizens and organizations seeking assurances the previously
agreed to preservation requirements will be enforced, none have been offered. Indeed
public advocacy groups that are normally informed in advance of meetings
and announcements pertaining to municipal projects that affect their interests,
have been overlooked.
During
the course of this exercise, Mr. Ken Clay of the WDC
Board of Directors did say that more effort should be made to work with
concerned citizens groups in the future. He is aware of our preservation concerns, This is
the first time a Metro Official has publicly expressed, albeit indirectly, that
the community has not been adequately included in the process and that there are widespread concerns.
We thank him for
that.
The
design will now go to the U.S. Corps of Engineers and Metro Planning/Zoning, Land Design & Development
Committee for design review...
