Oct 21 2005 - The Louisville Harbor Association Receives a letter of
Termination from the WDC.
This
letter from David Karem Exec. Dir. WDC informs the LHA that their lease for the
2005-06 boating season will not be renewed and all boats and equipment must be
removed no later than Nov 27 2005. In spite of repeated offers of assistance and
requests for consultation in the redevelopment process, this has been the only
official WDC response and officially ends the 50 year relationship between
Louisville Metro and the LHA.
The
only other WDC inquiry to the boaters who have successfully operated The Harbor
in the face of extreme adversity for the past 50 years was to ask the going
price of slip rentals. This is curious since the inquiry was made by an official
who as a former LHA member and kept a boat there for several years.
Since
there is not another secure, affordable mooring in the downtown area, many of
modest means or on fixed incomes will be driven off the river and forced to sell
their boats. For them, and their families, this letter ends a fulfilling
lifelong tradition.
